God Connect: Daily Renewing Your Mind, Body, and Spirit

My Shepherd

on February 15, 2012

“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.”  Psalm 23:1

When you think of a shepherd what comes to your mind? We don’t often think of the duties of a shepherd or relate them to our lives today.  However, the role of a shepherd is a very important one.  It is the shepherd’s duty to watch over and protect the sheep.  It is his job to lead and guide the sheep and to provide for them.

It’s very appropriate that David compared the Lord to a shepherd in Psalm 23:1.  Just as the shepherd watches over and protects the sheep, so the Lord watches over and protects us.  He leads us and guides us in every aspect of our lives.  Without the Shepherd, our lives would have no purpose or direction.  The Lord also provides for us inasmuch as David said, “I shall not want.” Not only does God provide all our needs, but according to Ephesians 3:20, he “is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think.”

Today I challenge you to get to know the Shepherd.  Trust Him with your life and with knowing that He will lead, guide, and protect you.  In turn, you will find the same sense of security that David had with the Lord in Psalm 23.
