God Connect: Daily Renewing Your Mind, Body, and Spirit

Unspotted from the World

on February 2, 2012

“Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.”  James 1:27

As I was reading in Leviticus, I found that God gave a list of standards for the people to abide by.  He wanted to teach them what was morally acceptable and unacceptable.  Although you and I are not under the law, but under grace, God still holds us morally accountable today. Thankfully, as Christians, God equips us with the Holy Spirit.  Through His Spirit we learn God’s expectations for us.  We are prompted to do what is right and know it if we do not.  Through the Holy Spirit and through God’s Word we learn how to walk righteously, in a way that please God.  Romans 8:5 tells us, “For they that are after the things of the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.”

Today I challenge you to lay aside your earthly desires (the things of the flesh) and follow after the things of the Spirit (the things of God).  God is calling us to live a life that is righteous and morally acceptable.  He has given us His Holy Spirit to help us with the task, and He will hold us accountable for the way we live.

“For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.  For as many are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.”  Romans 8:13-14
