God Connect: Daily Renewing Your Mind, Body, and Spirit

A Living Sacrifice

on January 31, 2012

“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.  And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”  Romans 12:1-2

I’ve recently been reading about the sacrifices that the Israelites were required to make in the Old Testament.   On one hand, it makes me thankful that we do not have to make such sacrifices today.  There were specific guidelines to follow in perfecting the sacrifice given.  The children of Israel were accountable for following the guidelines to a tee.  I’m grateful that Christ was our sacrifice and we’re no long under those laws.

However, on the other hand, I realize the great responsibility we now have when we the Bible commands us to offer our bodies as a living sacrifice.  Sacrifices in the Old Testament had to be without spot or blemish.  God is asking the same of us today.  He teaches us not to be conformed to this world.  Instead, He wants us to be transformed by the renewing of our minds.

Today I challenge you to renew your mind.  Spend time with God through prayer and Bible study.  As Him to forgive you for the ways you’ve been conforming to the world and to help you live daily without spot or blemish.  Although we don’t have rules about offering animals, God still wants us to offer ourselves today.  It is our reasonable service.
