Seek and Ye Shall Find

on January 17, 2012

“Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.” Matthew 7:7-8

God promises us that when we ask, it shall be given to us; when we seek, we shall find; and when we knock, it shall be opened.  Even in knowing this, I think sometimes it’s easy for us to get discouraged if we don’t see results immediately.  We ask God for something and expect Him to snap His fingers and it be granted.  God does have the power to work in that capacity, but think of how selfish and ungrateful we’d become if He always did.

Many times I think we fail to realize that there’s more to that verse.  Jesus doesn’t stop after “ask and it shall be given you.”  He goes on to say, “seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.”  God doesn’t just want us to come, lay our petitions before Him, and leave.  He wants us to seek Him.

We should be spending time each day reading our Bibles, praying, listening to God, and looking for His presence all around us.  When we take time to truly seek God, we will find Him.  He will open His door to us and we will start to see the results of what we’ve been asking.

My challenge for you today is for you to stop making a “wish list” for God.  Instead, spend your time seeking Him through prayer and through the scripture.  In turn, He will reveal Himself to you, and you will begin to see your prayers answered.

“And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.”  Matthew 21:22
