God Connect: Daily Renewing Your Mind, Body, and Spirit

Trust

on January 14, 2012

Trust is defined as reliance on the integrity, strength, ability, or surety of a thing or person.  Unfortunately, so many times in our lives we’ve put our trust in someone or something and we’ve been disappointed.  People let us down by lying to us or by not being as loyal as we expect.  Selfish motives oftentimes get in the way and cause people to do things that give us reason not to trust them anymore.  We may also put our trust in material things by expecting them to always work as they’re intended only to find that our computer crashes or our car breaks down.  The deception in this world gives us good reason not to trust anyone or anything.  Sometimes we may even put up a wall around ourselves to protect ourselves from getting hurt.

It is important to remember, however, that God is the One we can truly trust.  Psalm 9:10 declares, “And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, Lord, hast not forsaken them that seek thee.”  Most of us have been forsaken by people we love.  We may even be in a position where we feel we can never love or trust anyone again.  Despite our frustration and hurt, God promises us that we can safely trust in Him.

Today I challenge you to rid yourself of the fear and insecurities that trouble you when you think of allowing yourself to trust.  Put the energy you were using to harbor your fear and insecurities into knowing that God will not forsake you.  In turn, you will find yourself ready and able to trust in Him.

“The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the Lord shall be safe.” Proverbs 29:25
