God Connect: Daily Renewing Your Mind, Body, and Spirit

“My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him.” Psalm 62:5

Waiting…I think I’d be safe to say that waiting, for most of us, is definitely not our strong suit.  We like things to happen when we’re ready for them to happen.  In the fast-paced world we live in, waiting is usually a struggle.  We’re used to access to the Internet in seconds.  Information is available at our fingertips and friends are only a phone call or text message away.

Although we’re accustomed to having things right when we want them, sometimes I think God is really just teaching us to wait.  In 1 Timothy 6:11 Paul lists some qualities that Christians are to follow after.  I’m not surprised to find that patience makes its spot on that list.  Most of us probably wish we had more patience and wonder how we can obtain it.  Unfortunately, one of the best ways God teaches us patience is through making us learn to wait on Him.  He may reassure us that He has heard our prayers and is working on our behalf, but He wants us to wait for an answer.

As hard as it may be, I’ve found that waiting on God usually brings us closer to Him.  In times of our desperation and uncertainty, we cling more closely to Him.  Then, when our prayers are finally answered, His glory shines through.  Today, I challenge you to look at waiting and unanswered prayers with a different perspective. See that through the process of waiting God is perfecting you and drawing you closer to Him.  In turn, God will strengthen and renew you… and when God answers your prayers, it will feel so great!

“But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31
