God Has a Plan

on January 6, 2012

As I reflect on Abraham’s life as recorded in Genesis, I find that Abraham had the same struggles with God as we do today.  God promised Abraham a son.  He promised to multiply his seed and make him a father of many nations.  Abraham seemed to trust God’s promises for awhile, but eventually grew impatient.  It was only a matter of time before Abraham (and Sarah) decided to take matters into their own hands.  Seeing that Sarah was barren, Abraham had a child with Hagar, Sarah’s handmaid.  This was not God’s plan, however, and eventually caused problems for God’s chosen people.  God did have a plan, and just as He planned, Isaac was born to Abraham and Sarah in their old age which further showed the miraculous work of the Lord.

When Sarah laughed at the thought of God’s plan, God replied by saying, “Is any thing too hard for the Lord?”  At times, I feel He is probably asking us the same rhetorical question today.  He promises to do good for us, and deep down we KNOW that He has a wonderful plan for us.  Yet, just as Abraham and Sarah, we let fear, doubt, insecurities, and our impatience get in the way of God’s perfect plan for us.  We try to take matters into our own hands, and often hurt ourselves and others in the process.

Ephesians 3:20 reminds us that God “is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask for or think, according to the power that worketh in us.”  My challenge for you today is to control your impatience and insecurities by resting assured in knowing that God has a perfect plan for you.  Don’t be discouraged by unanswered prayers or by the things you don’t see happening in your life.  The more difficult the situation, the more glory God will receive when He works it all out.

“As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the Lord is tried; he is a buckler to all them that trust in him.” 2 Samuel 22:31
