Running with Patience

on January 2, 2012

“Wherefore seeing also we are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so doth easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us.” Hebrews 12:1

Each day when we wake up, we face a new leg of the race we’re running… it’s called life.  We start our days with things we must do, places we must go, and people we must see.  We start with an agenda, and set out to accomplish it.  Unfortunately, most days don’t always go as planned.  Trials get in our way of accomplishing the goals.  Time puts us in a crunch and leaves us chasing our tails.  But for what?  Do you ever feel like you are constantly running the race, but never getting anywhere?  Maybe we are running the wrong direction, or maybe even the wrong race.  We seek fame, fortune, success, happiness, or maybe even  balance as we juggle our chaotic lives.  These things can be good and worthwhile, yet they leave us chasing the wind.  Matthew 6:33 says, “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.”

I challenge you today to put aside the burdens and sins that weigh you down.  I challenge you to focus on God and seek after righteousness.  In turn, I hope you find yourself running with patience toward the kingdom of God, rather than running in circles in the race of this world.
